Siliguri, 02nd August: In a significant joint operation, the Special Operations Group (SOG) and New Jalpaiguri (NJP) police station on Wednesday arrested a drug peddler with brown sugar and cash in Siliguri. The accused has been identified as Mukid Alam, a resident of Phansidewa.
Acting on a tip-off, the SOG and NJP police team intercepted a small four-wheeler in front of the Biswa Bangla Shilpi Haat in Kawakhali. During the search, the team found 622 grams of brown sugar and Rs 5 lakhs in cash.
Alam was arrested on charges of drug trafficking. He has a history of involvement in drug trafficking. The accused was presented before the Jalpaiguri Court earlier on Wednesday. Currently, the incident is under police investigation.
