Social Worker Bankim Singh’s Death Case: Accused arrested from Odisha

Siliguri, 05th May: After a month-long investigation, the Bagdogra police successfully apprehended the accused, Rajat Chakraborty, from Bhubaneswar, Odisha, in connection with the tragic death of social worker Bankim Singh.


According to reports, on April 3, Rajat Chakraborty, a lawyer, allegedly attacked Bankim Singh at a petrol pump near Gosaipur Check Post in Bagdogra. Bankim Singh, a resident of Rangiya in Matigara, sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a nursing home in Siliguri, where he succumbed to his injuries on April 10. Following a complaint by his family, the police initiated an investigation and registered a case under section 307.

Despite efforts by the accused to conceal his identity, the police managed to track down the car used in the attack on April 4. Subsequently, Rajat Chakraborty was located and arrested in Bhubaneswar with the aid of mobile network tracing. On Saturday, the case was forwarded to the Bhubaneswar Court, and Rajat Chakraborty was granted transit remand. At present, the accused was escorted to the Bagdogra police station before appearing in the Siliguri court on Sunday while the entire case is under further investigation.
