Siliguri, 24th March: Smoke was observed in various parts of Siliguri at night, prompting Mayor Gautam Deb to hold an emergency meeting with police, fire brigade, and forest department officials to determine its source.
The meeting, held on Monday, was attended by Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar and other officials, where discussions were held on the origin of the smoke affecting the city.
Addressing the matter, Mayor Gautam Deb clarified that rumours attributing the smoke to the city’s dumping ground were incorrect. He stated that the actual source of the smoke was forested areas in Dudhiya and Gajoldoba.
The Mayor also outlined several measures being taken regarding the dumping ground, including the installation of fire protection systems, construction of a warehouse, watchtower, and CCTV server room. Further, he stated that a police outpost will be set up.
