SMC to release guppy fish to control mosquito breeding

Siliguri, 11th August: In an attempt to control the breeding of larvae of mosquitoes that cause dengue and malaria in the city, the Siliguri Municipal Corporation will be releasing about 6 lakh 50 thousand guppy fish in ponds, ditches, sewers and areas where water is stagnant.


Under the programme, today about 3 lakh 25 thousand guppy fishes were handed over to various borough offices by the corporation. Reportedly, a huge quantity of guppy fish has been taken from the fisheries department by the SMC. A total of 6 lakh 50 thousand guppy fish is set to be released in the drains in different wards of the city in two phases.
