Siliguri, 06th June: Acting on High Court orders, the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) has begun demolishing illegal constructions in Siliguri.
Reportedly, the demolition of a two-storied house on government land in Pati Colony, Ward No. 47, commenced on Thursday morning.
Previously, SMC’s attempt to demolish the house was thwarted by obstacles, prompting a legal battle. The High Court’s recent directive mandated the demolition, which proceeded under heavy police presence to ensure compliance.
This incident highlights a broader issue, as many homes in the Siliguri Junction area are built on government land, leading residents to demand official land titles (Land Pattas) from the authorities.
