SMC continues campaign against single use plastic in Siliguri

Siliguri, 11th August: Marching forward with their campaign against single-use plastic in Siliguri, the Siliguri Municipal Corporation officials raided the DI fund market today. The campaign was conducted in the said market under the leadership of Board of Administrators Chairman Goutam Deb and member Ranjan Sarkar. Several kilos of banned plastic carry bags were recovered from the market. However, like yesterday, no trader was fined and were left with a warning.


“We are continuously campaigning against plastic carry bags to save the environment of the city. The campaign was conducted in Bidhan Market yesterday and today we are inspecting the DI Fund Market,” Administrator Goutam Deb said. He added that the business people and buyers are being made aware of the harmful effects of using plastic carry bags.

According to the information, such an awareness campaign will be conducted on behalf of various organizations including voluntary organizations of the city.
