Siliguri, 09th July: The Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) demolished a TMC party office allegedly constructed illegally on the embankment of the Panchanai River in Ward No. 47 of Siliguri Municipal Corporation.
According to reports, the party office was built illegally on the river embankment. Municipal officials reached the spot on Thursday morning and launched the eviction drive. A large police force from Pradhan Nagar Police Station was deployed at the site to prevent any untoward incident during the operation.
Local residents said that any illegal construction on river embankments could create problems for drainage systems and the safety of the embankment in the future. They welcomed the administration’s action.
The Siliguri Municipal Corporation stated that similar drives against illegal encroachments and constructions on government land, river embankments, and areas related to public interest will continue in the future.
