SMC and Bhaichung Bhutia jointly helped the needy amid lockdown

Siliguri, 29th April: Ignoring the political differences, former Indian football captain and one of the biggest sports stars India has produced, “Sikkimese Sniper” Bhaichung Bhutia has come forward to help the Siliguri Municipal Corporation amid the COVID-19 pandemic.


It has been learned that Bhutia financially assisted SMC to help the needy in such a crisis.

Mayor Ashok Bhattacharya stated that SMC has been constantly helping the needy during the lockdown. He highly praised the initiative taken by Bhaichung Bhutia and stated that the amount Bhutia donated has been used to distribute food items among the needy in various parts of Ward No. 6.


On the other hand, Bhaichung Bhutia, in response to the Mayor’s remarks, stated that despite the political rivalry, he had always maintained good relations with the SMC Mayor.

Bhutia joined the All India Trinamool Congress and unsuccessfully contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from the Darjeeling constituency. In 2018, after the break up with TMC, he established a new party “Hamro Sikkim Party” in May 31.
