Jalpaiguri, 27th August: Six people were injured during a land dispute in the Jhar Salbari area under Gadang- 2 Gram Panchayat.
Out of the six, five are said to be critically injured. They were primarily admitted to Dhupguri Hospital and were later shifted to Jalpaiguri Super Speciality Hospital.
According to local sources, tension over a piece of land had been hovering over Nilkamal Mandal and Sushil Mandal for the past several days. Allegedly the course of the conflict took a violent turn today. The locals further alleged that the police were also stopped from entering the spot.
Tapash Mandal, son of Sushil Mandal, stated that when he visited the land in the morning, Nilkamal and his son attacked Tapash’s aunt and brother with sticks and an axe.
On the other hand, Nilkamal Mandal’s wife Malati Mandal accused Sushil Mandal of encroaching their land. She further alleged that Nilkamal was attacked when he protested against the damages made in the jute field. She claimed that complaints were lodged at the police station earlier in this regard.
