Six including a police constable arrested for smuggling cattle in Kharibari 

Kharibari, 08th December: Another case of cattle smuggling has come to the fore from the area of Banchabhita area of Kharibari’s Bengal-Bihar border. Reportedly, six have been arrested including a police constable for smuggling 32 buffaloes in a lorry loaded with gunny bags. The said constable has been identified as Fani Roy, a resident of Alipurduar and was working in the Naxalbari police. Whereas, the remaining four are from Bihar and one is said to be from Assam.


Acting on a tip-off, the jawans of Ramdhan Jote and Bhatgaon camp of SSB’s 41st battalion seized the said lorry before they could smuggle the buffaloes from Bihar to Assam in the guise of husk. The SSB jawans intercepted the vehicle and arrested six in the incident. After this, the arrested were handed over to the Kharibari police station. 

Today the six accused have been produced in the Siliguri Sub-divisional Court. On the other hand, the sensation spread due to the police constable’s involvement in smuggling. The police are probing the entire matter.
