Siliguri woman arrested for creating false narrative of snatch theft of Rs 40 lakh

Siliguri, 24th February: A case of creating a false narrative of being a victim to snatch theft has come to the fore from Siliguri. The police of Matigara police station and Medical Out Post were stumped. 


Reportedly, Manpreet Kaur, a resident of the Matigara Kamal Jote area herself has got trapped in the quagmire of a false snatching theft story. Manpreet Kaur gave information about snatching thievery to the police. When the Matigara and Medical Out Post police suspected Manpreet Kaur, they started questioning her. In an hour’s investigation, the false story of Manpreet Kaur’s false ordeal was exposed.

Reportedly, Manpreet Kaur called the Medical Out Post on Friday morning and informed about the incident of miscreants snatching Rs 40 lakh from her. On getting this news, the IC of Matigara police station as well as the OC of Medical Out Post, and the entire team immediately reached the spot.


After this, Manpreet Kaur was interrogated. During this, Manpreet told that she works in a security guard organization. Today she was going to deposit the company’s Rs 40 lakh in the bank. Meanwhile, two people snatched a bag full of money near her residence in the Kamal Jote area and fled with the cash. After questioning, the police immediately started scanning the CCTV footage of a school and a confectionary shop in the said area. After not getting any proof of snatch-thievery on the CCTV, the police suspected Manpreet Kaur. After this, the police brought her to the police station. After one hour of intense questioning, Manpreet Kaur confessed to the false snatching incident created by her.

According to police sources, Manpreet Kaur works in a security-providing organization and had taken about Rs 40 lakh from the owner of the institution to invest the money on interest. When the owner started demanding money back from her, Manpreet Kaur made up a false narrative of snatch-thievery of Rs 40 lakh. At present, the police have started a further investigation by taking Manpreet Kaur into custody.
