Siliguri Times bust illegal sale of COVID Antibody Test Kit in a sound system shop, investigation underway

Siliguri, 02nd August: Sensation prevailed after an unauthorized trade concerning the sale of COVID-19 Antibody Test Kits surfaced from a sound system rental shop in Siliguri. After the incident came to light, the Siliguri Police Commissionerate has launched an investigation into the incident. However, police officials have not provided any information so far.


During a sting operation carried out by Siliguri Times’ correspondent, on Saturday, it was revealed that a sound system shop in Siliguri’s Ward No. 37 was apparently selling test kits illegally. The kits were reportedly named ‘COVID TEST KIT’.

When our undercover correspondent approached the trader as a buyer, he explained that the kits need to be pre-ordered by the customer. Reportedly, 100 kits will cost around 85 thousand rupees. The trader further stated that anyone can perform the test after inserting their swab inside the kit.


As soon as the news was broadcasted on our platform, it spread like wildfire and the police became highly concerned regarding the matter.

While the Ashighar Outpost Police have been searching for the accused trader since Saturday night, he has not been traced yet. The news has also created a stir in the entire region. On Sunday afternoon, some locals went to the Ashighar outpost to submit a memorandum concerning the incident.

Loknath Saha, a local, stated that sanitizers and masks used to be sold in the shop ever since the lockdown was imposed. He further demanded a proper investigation into the matter.
