Siliguri, 05th August: Tension erupted in the Purba Majhabari area near Siliguri following allegations of illegal liquor and substance abuse items being sold from a house. Ashighar Outpost Police have started an investigation into the incident.
According to local residents, a man identified as Shankar Das had allegedly been selling country liquor and other substance abuse items from his residence in Purba Majhabari for a long time. They alleged that despite repeated warnings, he continued the alleged illegal activity openly.
On Tuesday evening, a group of women from the area reportedly went to Shankar Das’s house. It is alleged that during the incident, Shankar Das confronted the women and misbehaved with them. There were also allegations that some women’s clothes were torn during the altercation.
Following the incident, angry residents allegedly assaulted Shankar Das. Later, the women searched his house and the houses of his relatives, where they claimed to have recovered a large quantity of country liquor and substance abuse items.
Residents alleged that such activities had been affecting children and youths in the area, pushing them towards substance abuse. They demanded immediate action to stop such activities.
Meanwhile, police from Ashighar Outpost reached the spot after receiving information about the incident. Further investigation is underway.
