Siliguri Tea Association Committee felicitates two players of Siliguri who participated in Brazil Paralympics

Siliguri, 26th March: Two students of Siliguri’s Tarai Tarapada Adarsha Vidyalaya will be representing India in Senior Category Table Tennis in the Brazil Paralympics. The differently-abled students, Priyam Chakraborty a resident of Deshbandhu Para, Siliguri and Swaran Das of Debasish Colony of South Bharat Nagar, had an inclination towards the sport of table tennis since childhood. After the completion of their secondary examinations, the students will be leaving to take part in the Paralympics to be held in Brazil from May 1. The duo has been under training from Banga Ratna awardee and former table tennis player Bharati Ghosh for the last eight years.


Earlier today, a program was organized in the honor of Sharan Das and Priyam Chatterjee on behalf of the Siliguri Tea Association Committee. Siliguri Police Commissioner Gaurav Sharma graced the program as the chief guest. Table tennis kits and financial assistance were given to the two players in the program.

During this, Siliguri Police Commissioner Gaurav Sharma said that Siliguri’s Sharan Das and Priyam Chatterjee representing India in the Paralympics in Brazil is a matter of pride for all. He said he is hopeful that coach Bharti Ghosh’s hard work will pay off. He also thanked the Siliguri Tea Association for extending a helping hand to both.


Likewise, coach Bharti Ghosh said that despite being disabled, the two boys are no less than anyone. She appreciated Police Commissioner Gaurav Sharma for shining light on the two boys. Due to this, several institutes are reaching out to boost the morale of the young players.
