Siliguri, 06th July: A sculptor from Siliguri has crafted a statue of Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee using his personal savings and expressed his intention to present it to CM Suvendu Adhikari.
The sculptor, Swapan Kumar Khan of Shanti Nagar in Siliguri, has been engaged in sculpture work for several years. His interest in art began in childhood with drawing and later developed into a professional pursuit after he studied at an art college. Over the past two decades, he has been creating various statues and artworks, earning local recognition, particularly for his skill in realistic fibre glass and clay-based sculptures.
Earlier, he had also created a fibre glass statue of Prime Minister Narendra Modi using his own initiative, which was later presented to Dabgram-Fulbari MLA Sikha Chatterjee.
Currently, he is working on a larger statue of Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee, made at a cost of around Rs 30,000 from his personal savings. Most of the work has already been completed, and the statue has been attracting attention from local visitors.
Swapan Kumar Khan said he creates art out of passion and invests his own resources to complete such projects. He added that he wishes to hand over the completed statue to Suvendu Adhikari.
