Siliguri, 10th July: Residents of Telipara under Dabgram II Anchal have alleged that the poor condition of the area’s drainage system is causing severe inconvenience, with even light rainfall leading to waterlogging on roads.
According to locals, the absence of a proper drainage outlet has resulted in rainwater accumulating on roads, making daily commuting difficult. They claimed that written complaints have been submitted to the Pradhan twice, but no effective steps have been taken to resolve the issue.
Residents also alleged that a new problem has emerged after a multi-storey building was constructed by a local resident. While they did not object to the construction itself, they claimed that sand was dumped on the road in front of the building, raising its level. Although drains have been constructed on both sides, locals alleged that there is no proper outlet for the water, causing rainwater to stagnate during showers.
When contacted, the Pradhan said repair work had recently been carried out on the main road by laying sand and stones, but the adjoining lane had not been repaired. She further stated that there had been no discussion with the panchayat regarding the drainage outlet and said the issue could be resolved if all concerned authorities sat together and worked out a solution.
