Siliguri police to reopen old land mafia cases amid crackdown on organised crime

Siliguri, 15th May: The Siliguri Police Commissionerate is preparing to take strict action against land mafias, with plans to reopen old cases and review long-pending files linked to illegal land activities.

Addressing a press conference at Matigara police station, Traffic DCP Quazi Samsuddin Ahamed said that citizens facing issues related to land mafias should directly inform the administration. He added that land mafia activities had increased in the city over a long period, and strict measures will now be implemented to curb such operations.

In a separate development, police have solved a major theft case reported in February from the Uttarayan area of Matigara, where valuables including gold and cash worth around ₹95 lakh were stolen. Three accused have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Police also arrested two individuals from Sikkim in another case, recovering expensive cameras, mobile phones, and wristwatches from their possession.

The DCP stated that the police are fully alert and committed to making Siliguri crime-free, and investigations in both cases are ongoing.
