Siliguri police station’s IC driver and accomplice arrested for extorting money from accused’s family 

Siliguri, 21st January: A driver and his accomplice driving the IC vehicle of Siliguri police station have been arrested for extorting money. The arrested accused have been identified as Karan Shah and his accomplice Shambhu Das alias Subho. Both the alleged accused were arrested on Friday night.


According to the information received, the prime accused Karan Shah is the driver of the Siliguri police station and had been driving the IC of the Siliguri police station for about four years. During this, Karan had become well acquainted with the police officers of the police station. Taking advantage of his acquaintance, Karan started extorting lakhs of rupees from an accused’s family whose member is involved in a sex racket case promising them to remove her name from the case. Seema Bose, daughter of the accused, alleged that she paid a total of Rs 1.5 lakh to Karan to clear her mother’s name from the case but it did not work. After this, she lodged a complaint at the police station on Friday.

Investigating the matter based on the complaint, the police of Siliguri police station arrested Karan Shah and then his accomplice Shambhu Das yesterday itself. Today both have been presented in Siliguri court. Reportedly, the accused has been taken on police remand for three days to investigate the matter. At the same time, on this subject, Siliguri Police Commissioner Akhilesh Chaturvedi said that the accused was the driver of the police vehicle who had been doing such illegal work using the name of the police. He further stated that legal action has been initiated against the duo.
