Siliguri, 09th August: Applauding the exemplary courage and unwavering sense of duty in apprehending criminals even by putting their safety at risk, Siliguri Police Commissioner Gaurav Sharma has taken the initiative to reward such police officials for their excellent work.
In a similar instance, Assistant sub-inspector Debasish Das of Pradhan Nagar Police Station is being hailed as a hero for nabbing a suspected rapist named Gourab Barman, one of the prime accused in the rape of a minor girl back in 2019. The suspect was since absconding.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team quickly headed towards Jamaibazar in the Champasari area. When he spotted the police team, the suspect took to his heels and in his desperation to evade arrest, jumped into the Mahananda river. However, ASI Debasish Das was determined not to let him get away so easily and without a second’s hesitation, he too plunged into the river and grabbed the suspect, all the while putting his life at stake.
The Siliguri Police Commissioner lauded the unmatched courage and dedication shown by ASI Debasish Das to his duty. For his act of bravery, he was given a letter of appreciation and a cash prize.
