Siliguri, 02nd July: The Siliguri Municipal Corporation has intensified its crackdown on illegal constructions in the city by carrying out a demolition drive at Pranami Mandir Road in Ward No. 40 on Thursday.
According to SMC sources, a portion of a ground floor apartment was demolished after it was found to be constructed beyond the approved building plan. The action was taken as per rules against unauthorised construction.
Heavy police deployment was made at the site to prevent any untoward incident, and the demolition was completed peacefully in the presence of municipal officials.
The civic body has been conducting regular drives against illegal constructions across the city over the past few months.
However, after the action, the property owner alleged that the demolition was carried out without prior notice. He also claimed that several other illegal constructions exist in the area but no action has been taken against them, alleging selective enforcement by the administration.
