Siliguri Metropolitan Police arrest three with firearms ahead of polls

Siliguri, 04th April: With the assembly elections approaching nearer, police are keeping a close watch, on every illegal activity in the city. As a result of the strict observation, Bhaktinagar Police Station and Ashighar Out Post Police arrested three with firearms in two separate cases, on Saturday night.


 

Reportedly, the arrested accused have been identified as Khokan Sarkar resident of Jyoti Nagar, Subojit Biswas of Dakshin Shantinagar and Shambu Das of the Ghogomali area.


In the first case, the Bhaktinagar police station searched a white-coloured Scorpio without a number plate, parked suspiciously near a hotel on Sevoke Road. During the search, police recovered a 7mm gun, 8 pieces of live cartridges, 2 fully-loaded magazines and an empty magazine from the rear of the vehicle. The police arrested Khokan Sarkar and confiscated the car. Apparently, Khokan Sarkar is associated with a criminal history.

Meanwhile, Ashighar Out Post Police conducted a campaign and arrested two accused, Subhojit Biswas Shambhu Das, with a 7mm gun, a One Shutter Automatic Pistol, a magazine, and two live cartridges. A case under the illegal possession of arms has been registered against the three accused. They were presented in the Jalpaiguri court, on Sunday.
