Siliguri, 04th March: The restoration work of the Fuleswari and Jorapani Rivers has commenced to improve water flow before the monsoon. On Tuesday, Mayor Gautam Deb inspected the progress of the work.
Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar, MMIC Manik Dey, and Councillors Ranjan Sil Sharma (Ward No. 36) and Dipta Karmakar (Ward No. 22), along with other officials, were present during the inspection.
Mayor Gautam Deb stated that the ongoing work includes cleaning the river and removing excess soil. An estimated Rs. 8.85 crore has been allocated for the project. He mentioned that his visit was to assess the progress and ensure the work is proceeding smoothly.
Once completed, the houses along the riverbanks will no longer face flooding issues during the monsoon. Additionally, two bridges in the area will be constructed by the North Bengal Development Department (NBDD).
