Siliguri Mayor falls sick after TMC besieges him, CPI(M) and Congress stage a protest against the harassment

Siliguri, 11th February: On Monday, the Ward No. 37 Trinamool Congress staged a protest in Siliguri in support of various demands such as the commencement of the widow’s allowance and old age allowance under the leadership of Councillor Ranjan Shil Sharma and later a staged a sit-in protest in front of the Mayor’s office.


After the incident, Mayor Ashok Bhattacharya fell sick. It is alleged that Bhattacharya was not even allowed to meet the Mayor-in-council and was not provided with any food and water throughout the protest.

Condemning the incident, the Darjeeling District Congress and the leftist organizations staged a rally today against Trinamool’s “immoral and unethical act”. The rally was held in the presence of the District Congress President Shankar Malakar and CPI(M) District Secretary Jibesh Sarkar. The rally commenced from the Anil Biswas Bhawan and toured various areas of the city. The Malakar and Sarkar expressed their outrage over TMC and warned of staging larger demonstrations if such activities occur in the future.
