Siliguri gold trader arrested on the charges of buying stolen goods

Siliguri, 28th September: The Bhaktinagar police arrested a gold trader from Siliguri on the charges of buying stolen goods. The arrested accused has been identified as Om Prakash Prasad.


   

According to police sources, a burglary took place at a residence in the Siliguri Shastri Nagar area on August 18. The thieves had fled away with various valuables including gold jewellery. Following this, the house owner lodged a written complaint at the Bhaktinagar police station.


Based on the complaint, the police launched investigations and arrested Sandeep Nath from Naihati in North 24 Parganas. Two more residents of Siliguri namely Mohammas Shahid and Iqbal Nazrul were also arrested on the charges of robbery. Upon interrogation, the police learned that they have sold the stolen jewellery at a gold shop in Siliguri.

The Police then raided the shop of Om Prakash Prasad, a gold trader in Ashrafnagar, Siliguri, and recovered 75 grams of stolen gold ornaments. Besides, the Police also arrested Om Prakash Prasad on the charges of buying stolen goods. The four arrested individuals will be produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Monday.
