Siliguri, 03rd December: Siliguri Athletics Lovers Association rallied in Siliguri demanding the construction of a stadium of international standards with synthetic track to promote athletics in the city.
According to reports, on Sunday morning, the rally commenced from Hashmi Chowk (Venus More) which circumambulated various city areas. Siliguri MLA Shankar Ghosh, Leader of Opposition (LoP) of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) Amit Jain and others were in attendance.
In this regard, MLA Shankar Ghosh highlighted the absence of a stadium with synthetic tracks in Siliguri. The MLA claimed to have spoken to Union Minister of State (MoS Home) Nisith Pramanik about building a stadium in Siliguri for the welfare and development of athletics. Furthermore, the BJP leader also opposed the upcoming program of the CM at Kanchenjunga Stadium.
Meanwhile, Siliguri Mayor Goutam Deb stated that he understands sports and is with the athletes. However, he condemned politicizing the issue.
