Siliguri, 08th July: An Anganwadi centre in the Bholanath Para area of Dabgram II Anchal, adjacent to Siliguri, has drawn criticism from local residents over its poor condition. Residents have expressed concerns regarding the lack of basic facilities at the centre.
According to local sources, the centre has only a small room allocated for cooking purposes. The room reportedly has no electricity connection, forcing workers to prepare meals in darkness. Meanwhile, children are taught on the outside veranda, where rainwater enters during showers, causing inconvenience for the students.
Parents alleged that the centre lacks adequate space for children to sit. They also claimed that the small kitchen and absence of lighting make it difficult to maintain cleanliness during cooking. Allegations have also surfaced that food is not supplied regularly to the children.
Although another location has reportedly been identified for shifting the centre, the relocation has not taken place yet. Local residents have demanded that the Anganwadi centre be moved to a suitable and safe location to ensure proper services for children.
An Anganwadi worker stated that the lack of space and electricity creates difficulties while preparing meals. She added that residents had not directly informed them about their concerns. Efforts were made to find another location, but a suitable place could not be identified. The matter has been informed to higher authorities.
The Pradhan said that no written or verbal complaint has been received so far. She stated that the centre previously had an electricity connection, but it was disconnected due to non-payment of bills. She added that the matter is under the notice of the concerned authorities.
