Siliguri, 30th January: The Excise Department recovered illegal liquor from Sikkim before it could be smuggled. Based on a tip-off, the officials of the department learned about the consignment being smuggled in a pick-up van from Sikkim’s Majitar to Mirik via Siliguri.
Acting on the tip-off, on Sunday late at night, officials of the Excise Department launched an operation in Thurbo Tea Garden area near Siliguri and seized a pickup van. After this, during the search, 155 cartons of Sikkim’s liquor and beer were recovered from the pickup van whose estimated market value is Rs 5,25,000. However, no one has been arrested in the incident. The driver of the pickup van escaped from the spot taking advantage of nighttime. Police have started investigating the entire incident.
