Several tourists and workers stranded at NJP railway station following Sikkim disaster

Siliguri, 4th October: The Siliguri-Sikkim National Highway (NH) has been closed following the disastrous flash flood in Sikkim. Consequently, all public and private bus services between Siliguri and Sikkim have been suspended since Wednesday morning. As a result, several tourists and workers, including regular commuters were left stranded.


As per reports, several tourists, workers, and passengers were stranded at the New Jalpaiguri (NJP) railway station. Smaller vehicles are charging higher fares from passengers for travel through alternative routes. Significantly, it is not possible for workers to pay the extra fare. As a result, they were stranded at the railway station. On Tuesday, several individuals also arrived at Siliguri for some urgent work at Sikkim. They expressed distress, upon receiving the news of the closure of the NH.
