Siliguri, 21st August: Ashighar police arrested two women and recovered one kilogram of brown sugar during a raid in the Tharughati area under the jurisdiction of the Ashighar outpost.
The arrested women have been identified as Sulekha Khatun, a resident of Malda, and Suprava Chakraborty, a resident of Naxalbari.
According to police sources, the duo had allegedly planned to trade the narcotics in the Tharughati area. Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid and detained the two women on suspicion. A search of their belongings led to the recovery of one kilogram of brown sugar.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the narcotics were allegedly brought from Malda and were to be handed over in the Farabari area.
The two accused were produced before the Jalpaiguri Court on Friday. Police have launched a detailed investigation into the case.
