Two killed after container truck rams into Bhutan-bound truck on Teesta bridge in Jalpaiguri

Jalpaiguri, 21st August: Two people were killed in a major road accident on the Teesta bridge in Jalpaiguri late Thursday night after a container truck allegedly rammed into a Bhutan-bound truck that had broken down on the bridge.

According to information, the Bhutan-bound truck had stopped on the bridge after developing a mechanical fault. While the driver was repairing the vehicle, a container truck coming from behind allegedly crashed into it at high speed.

The collision left both drivers trapped inside the vehicles. Jalpaiguri Kotwali Police, Sadar Traffic Police and a fire engine from Maynaguri Fire Station reached the spot after receiving information about the accident.

After a prolonged rescue operation, both drivers were pulled out and taken to Jalpaiguri Medical College and Hospital in critical condition. Doctors initially declared one of them dead. The condition of the other driver was also critical, and he later died while undergoing treatment.

The accident led to heavy traffic congestion in the area. Police efforts gradually brought the situation under control, and traffic movement returned to normal. Police have started an investigation into the accident.
