Siliguri: School reportedly vandalized repeatedly, power supply disrupted; students forced to study outdoors

Siliguri, 20th August: Repeated incidents of vandalism have reportedly been taking place at Ila Pal Choudhury Memorial (Tribal) Hindi High School in Sailbari, near Sukna, under Pradhan Nagar Police Station, creating concern among teachers and students.

Amid the heat, the situation has become particularly difficult as the school’s power supply has been disrupted, forcing students to study in the open ground instead of classrooms. Teachers are also facing difficulties conducting classes inside the classrooms without electricity.

According to information, miscreants have allegedly been entering the school premises and damaging electrical equipment. Wiring, switchboards and other electrical equipment installed in several classrooms have reportedly been damaged. The computer room has also allegedly been targeted.

The headmistress said such incidents have been occurring repeatedly since August 14. On Wednesday night, miscreants allegedly damaged the school’s main electrical switch, following which the entire power supply was disrupted from Thursday.

Earlier, all the utensils used for the school’s mid-day meal were also stolen. During the investigation into the theft, Pradhan Nagar Police reportedly found that two former students of the school were allegedly involved.

The repeated incidents of theft and vandalism have caused concern among the school authorities. Teachers have lodged a complaint with the police administration seeking action.

Based on the complaint, a plainclothes police team from Pradhan Nagar Police Station visited the school on Thursday, inspected the premises and spoke to the teachers. Police are investigating the incidents.
