Siliguri, 11th February: Terror gripped the Shiv Mandir market area after five armed miscreants targeted a gold shop and robbed the owner at gunpoint. While the incident created a stir in the area, the traders expressed concern about security and their safety.
As per the report, last night around 10 o’clock, the shopkeepers were closing their shops as usual and were preparing to head home. Suddenly, five bike-borne men arrived at the market area and bolted towards the gold shop. All the people inside the shop were held at gunpoint until the gang robbed the shop and left with gold ornaments.
After the incident, the cops of Matigara police station reached the spot and took stock of the situation. At present, the police are trying to identify the miscreants with the help of CCTV footage. The police visited the market this morning too and inspected the spot.
On the other hand, the traders stated that such an incident happened for the first time in the Shiv Mandir market. They claimed that the miscreants must have done a recce of the shop before robbing it. They demanded for proper investigation and security in the area.
