Sarugara Range forest personnel recover illegal wood worth Rs 40 lakhs, two arrested

Siliguri, 02nd October: The forest workers of Sarugara Range nabbed two smugglers and seized illegal timber worth Rs 40 lakhs from their possession. The accused have been identified as Sameedin and Israel. Both are said to be residents of Haryana.


Acting on a tip-off, the forest personnel under the leadership of Sarugara Ranger Sanjay Dutta launched an operation in the area adjacent to the Fulbari Bypass on Friday and stopped a lorry. During the search, the wood was recovered and the two people were arrested.


According to forest department sources, the wood was being taken from Guwahati to Maharashtra by hiding under the cover of husks and sacks. However, the forest department personnel busted the plan and recovered the wood. Further investigation has been intiiated.
