Siliguri, 05th January: The sixth Saras Mela has been organized by the Panchayat and Rural Development Department of the Government of West Bengal at Siliguri’s Kanchenjunga Stadium.
On Friday, Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Pradeep Kumar Majumdar lighted a lamp and officially inaugurated the fair. The Mela’s primary objective is to provide a means of income to the women of self-reliant groups.
During this, Siliguri Mayor Goutam Deb, District Magistrate of Darjeeling, SDO, Chairman of Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad, and others were also present.
Reportedly, the fair would continue till January 15. Every year, women from self-reliant groups from West Bengal and beyond arrive at the fair with their exquisite handmade products. Similarly, this year, 59 stalls have been set up from 22 districts of the state. Additionally, 15 stalls have been showcased from 12 other states marking a total of 120 stalls.
