Salesian College Declared as an Autonomous College

Siliguri : Saleian College, affiliated to the North Bengal University (NBU) has been declared an autonomous college. It is the first college in the entire region of North Bengal which has been given the status of Autonomous College. The approval letter to this effect was handed over to the Rector/Principal of Salesian College, Fr. Prof. George Thadathil, by Bratya Basu, Minister of Higher Education, West Bengal State Government, during a function at NBU on December 21 in the presence of Prof. Dr. Om Prakash Mishra, The Vice Chancellor of NBU and other dignitaries.


It’s noteworthy that, Salesian College was conferred the status of a ‘College with Potential for Excellence’ (CPE) by the University Grants Commission (UGC). It was accredited by NAAC with ‘A’ Grade. It has retained its ‘A’ Grade in the Third Cycle starting from May 2019, the first College to receive such grade under the University of North Bengal.

Salesian College is a Government recognized, minority educational institution of the Catholic Church, run by Salesians of Don Bosco, Kolkata Province where over 2500 students do their Arts/Humanities, Commerce, Science and Professional Courses (UG & PG) in both Sonada (Darjeeling) and Siliguri campus under the North Bengal University (NBU). Now, with autonomous status, The college will be able to make its own decisions about the courses, curriculum, conduct of examination, and many other areas of education. The College Management, faculty members, and students are looking forward to the many new opportunities that this autonomy will bring to the college.
