Road construction halted in Cooch Behar as residents raise quality concerns

Cooch Behar, 02nd June: The residents of Dhulabari Uttarpara and Kalighat in Panisala, under Cooch Behar’s Block No. 01, have put a stop to the ongoing road construction, alleging the use of sub-standard materials.

According to reports, the Public Works Department (PWD) was in the process of constructing a 2-kilometre road from Kalighat to Mashan Mandir in Dhulabari No. 03. However, the residents raised concerns about the quality of materials being utilized for the project, deeming them to be of inadequate standards. Consequently, today, the local residents decided to halt the construction work, asserting that they would not tolerate sub-standard workmanship.

Meanwhile, the contractor working in the area voiced difficulties encountered during the project. In response, Abdul Kader Haque, the President of Trinamool Congress for Cooch Behar Block No. 01 “B,” claimed to be unaware of the situation and accused the opposition of conspiring against the project. Haque further stated that appropriate action would be taken if any party members were found to be involved in compromising the quality of work.
