Fulbari, 27th July: A road accident near Uttar Kanya left two people seriously injured after a bike collided with a goods lorry. The incident sparked anger among local residents, who staged a protest on the road.
The injured have been identified as Pradip Goswami and Lakshmi Goswami, both residents of Jalpaiguri.
According to reports, the two were travelling towards Fulbari from Siliguri on a bike. When the bike stopped at the Uttar Kanya traffic point due to a red signal, a speeding goods lorry allegedly hit the bike from behind.
Due to the impact, both bike riders fell onto the road and sustained serious injuries. With the help of local residents and police, the injured were rescued and admitted to a private hospital in Fulbari. Their condition is reported to be critical.
Following the accident, local residents expressed anger and staged a protest on the road. A heated argument reportedly broke out between protesters and police, while the agitated crowd allegedly caused minor damage to the accused vehicle.
Later, police from New Jalpaiguri Police Station and Fulbari Highway Traffic Outpost reached the spot and brought the situation under control. The lorry and its driver were detained and taken to the police station.
The incident occurred on the same day when tight security arrangements were in place in the area due to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s important meeting at Uttar Kanya. Local residents questioned how such an accident occurred despite the security arrangements.
