Residents of Ward No. 29 stage protest over their ward being declared as a containment zone

Siliguri, 14th August: In light of the increasing number of coronavirus cases, four wards, i.e. Ward No. 15, 17, 02 and 29 under Siliguri Municipal Corporation were declared as containment zones on August 12 by the State government. A complete lockdown has also been enforced in these wards for the next seven days.

However, on Friday, the residents of Ward No. 29 condemned the decision and raised questions in this regard. They claim that the area is now free of the virus as no more positive cases have been reported since the death of a COVID-19 positive woman, 13 days ago.

They expressed outrage and raised questions concerning why certain flats or houses have been barricaded and demanded that the barricades be put off soon.

Sharadindu Chakraborty, Ward Co-ordinator, stated that they are unaware of the whole matter. He assured of approaching the SDO to discuss the issue.
