Siliguri, 21st March: The residents of Haripur Nichpara in Fulbari No. 1 region gheraoed Panchayat Pradhan and protested alleging violence caused by land mafias and harassment of women in the area.
It has been learned that on Saturday, a family in Nichpara was attacked by some local land mafias. When the locals came to rescue, several houses were vandalized by the miscreants and women were also beaten. Although a written complaint was filed against six men at the police station, no arrest has been made as of now.
On Monday, the residents of Nichpara arrived at Gram Panchayat office No. 1 in Fulbari and protested by gheraoing Pradhan Namita Karati. They also demanded severe punishment for the accused individuals immediately.
Fulbari No. 1 Gram Panchayat Pradhan Namita Karati said, “I received the complaint today. The culprits will be punished.”
