Residents of Bagdogra’s village protested against no electricity amenities despite 75 years of the country’s independence

Bagdogra, 22nd November: Today residents of the village adjacent to Bengdubi of Bagdogra reached Duare camp to raise their voices and share their grievances. Even after 75 years of independence, the village has not yet received any electricity. People are being attacked by wild animals in the dark and the villagers are also facing tribulations in their livelihood. Despite constant appeals to offices and officials, the electricity problem was not resolved.

In the end, the angry villagers reached the camp of the electricity department located at Subhamaya Surya Narayan Hindi High School in Bagdogra today. They protested by gheraoing the officials of the electricity department and demanded electricity connection be provided at the earliest. If their demands are not met they said they will launch a bigger movement and protest.

In this regard, Naxalbari Block Congress President Amitabh Sarkar said that the villagers are harassed by sending them from one place to another for the problem.

However, the Bagdogra Electricity Department official said that all the cases are being looked into and soon arrangements will be made to provide electricity to their villages.

On the other hand, Sanjeev Sinha, head of Upper Bagdogra Gram Panchayat, said that it is normal for the villagers to protest as they do not have a registration, and by doing so problems will be solved.
