Rescued kangaroos undergoing treatment at Bengal Safari Park

Siliguri, 02nd April: The three kangaroos, who have been the talk of the town since last evening, are undergoing treatment at Bengal Safari Park in Siliguri. As they appear to be very fatigued, the animals have been given saline water. At present, the cubs will be treated at the Park for a few days. After this, it will be decided whether or not the kangaroos will be sent to Alipore Zoo in Kolkata.


It is to recall, two injured kangaroos were rescued from near Gajoldoba in Jalpaiguri on Friday night while another was rescued by the forest officials from the Farabari- Nepali area in Dabgarm Forest range of Jalpaiguri. According to Sanjay Dutta, Ranger Belacoba forest range under the Baikunthpur forest division said that on Friday night the forest officials had found two kangaroos during patrolling. The animals had some critical injuries on their bodies after which they were immediately brought to Bengal Safari Park for further treatment.

Doctors have assumed that the kangaroos had not been fed for many days resulting in them being extremely malnutrition. Meanwhile, the body of the kangaroo found dead on the same night will be sent for an autopsy. Once all three kangaroos recover, they might be kept on Bengal Safari Park itself or be sent to Darjeeling or Kolkata.
