Raju Bista leads Gorkha representatives to meet Delhi Commissioner of Police

Darjeeling, 21st December: Darjeeling MP Raju Bista led a team of Gorkha representatives to meet the Commissioner of Delhi Police Rakesh Asthana.

On behalf of the people from Darjeeling hills, Terai, and Dooars, Bista thanked him for taking necessary steps to investigate the drug trafficking rings during his stint as the Director-General of Narcotics Control Bureau.

“I also shared our gratitude to the Delhi Police, who investigated and arrested five individuals involved in the murder of two women from Darjeeling – Sujala Gurung Pradhan and Meena Rai, in South Delhi’s Jangpura Extension, within days of the crime being committed,” Bista said in a statement.

A few issues were highlighted concerning the safety and welfare of the people and Gorkhas from across India who live in Delhi:

• To nominate Gorkha representative from Darjeeling in SPUNER (Spl. Police unit for North-East Region) Cell.
• Provide additional police patrolling in the areas where North East and Gorkha residents live in a large number.
• Regular meetings to be organized by local police involving people from NE and RWAs to ensure safety for all.
• Many of our youths stay in Delhi for their studies or career, they face instances of eve-teasing and stalking. We have requested strictly dealing with this menace.
• We also requested Rakesh ji to take necessary actions to sensitize the local police officials on the need to treat complaints from Gorkhas and NE people on priority.

Bista informed that the Commissioner assured that Gorkha representative from Darjeeling will be included in SUPNER immediately and all other these issues will also be resolved
