Rajganj, 09th June: Residents of Selterbari village in Rajganj are facing severe difficulties due to waterlogging caused by inadequate drainage infrastructure. Following light rainfall on Monday night, several houses in the area were inundated, leaving residents frustrated over a problem they say has persisted for more than a year.
According to local sources, even a small amount of rainfall leads to water accumulation across different parts of the village. In the absence of a proper drainage system, the stagnant water enters homes and remains trapped for days. In several areas, water levels have reportedly risen above knee height, disrupting daily life.
Local resident Krishna Kanti Roy alleged that the waterlogged conditions have led to various health concerns. He said children are particularly vulnerable, while the presence of snakes and other insects has increased due to the stagnant water. He also claimed that complaints regarding the issue have already been submitted to the Gram Panchayat and the BDO.
Residents further alleged that prolonged waterlogging has increased the risk of mosquito-borne and water-borne diseases, causing concern among families, especially those with children and elderly members.
Responding to the complaints, Binnaguri Gram Panchayat Pradhan Samijuddin Ahmed said the matter has been brought to his notice and necessary steps will be taken after reviewing the situation.
