Rajganj, 30th May: A special vaccination programme for the prevention of cervical cancer has been launched at Rajganj Rural Hospital, with 15 adolescent girls receiving the vaccine on the first day.
The statewide Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination drive was launched to prevent cervical cancer. The programme was formally inaugurated at Kolkata, after which it was rolled out at Rajganj Rural Hospital.
The event at the hospital was attended by Rajganj MLA Dinesh Sarkar, BMOH Dr Rahul Roy, doctors, healthcare workers and ASHA workers.
BMOH Dr Rahul Roy said that around 15 adolescent girls received the HPV vaccine on the first day of the programme and were also issued certificates after vaccination.
Hospital sources said the vaccine is being administered mainly to 14-year-old girls, aiming to reduce the risk of cervical cancer in the future. The special vaccination drive will continue for the next three months.
