Rajganj, 24th March: Rajganj police arrested a youth on the charge of attempting rape on a minor girl. The arrested accused has been identified as Bablu Barman (25), resident of Rajganj Kukurjan Gram Panchayat Kantipara.
According to police sources, on January 08, a 14-year-old girl from Kantipara stepped out of her house, during which, Bablu dragged her to the nearby forest and tried to rape her. When the girl screamed for help, he ran away.
After the incident, a written complaint was lodged against the youth at Rajganj Police Station on January 13 on behalf of the girl’s family. Police conducted several raids but the youth managed to escape. Finally, after receiving a tip-off, the police arrested the accused from the Sarugara pipeline area of Siliguri on Wednesday night.
Rajganj police IC Pankaj Sarkar said a case has been filed against him under POSCO Act. He was sent to Jalpaiguri court today.
