Siliguri, 14th January: A pregnant woman lost her life in a miscreant attack on the Hasimara Asian Highway. The incident took place on Thursday night on the Bhutan-bound Asian Highway under Hasimara outpost in Alipurduar district.
It has been learned that Ekramul Haque and his wife Majida Begum went to a relative’s house in Jaigaon. They were returning home in their car at night, during which, a group of miscreants attacked them with sharp weapons near the Hasimara overbridge. Seeing the couple lying in a severely injured condition, the locals informed the police. Following this, the Jaigaon police and the Hasimara outpost police reached the spot.
The two were rescued and rushed to Alipurduar District Hospital, where doctors declared the woman dead. On the other hand, Ekramul Haque was rushed to Cooch Behar MJN Medical and Hospital in a critical condition. It has been learned that the deceased woman was eight months pregnant.
Police have started an investigation into the whole incident.
