Police seize 5 trucks in crackdown on illegal mining in Siliguri, one arrested

Siliguri, 13th May: Siliguri Metropolitan Police launched a major operation against illegal mining activities and seized five trucks loaded with sand and stones allegedly extracted illegally from a river. The raid was carried out by Pradhan Nagar police station based on a tip-off.

According to police sources, several accused persons managed to flee after getting information about the raid. However, one accused identified as Raju Sharma, a resident of the Milan More area, was arrested during the operation.

Police said illegal mining activities had allegedly been continuing for several days. Acting on secret information, police conducted a late-night raid in the area. Chaos reportedly broke out after the police arrived, but Raju Sharma was allegedly caught red-handed during the operation.

Police also seized five vehicles allegedly being used for illegal mining activities. Several other accused persons managed to escape taking advantage of the darkness. The arrested accused was produced before Siliguri court on Wednesday. Police have started an investigation into the entire incident.
