Police rescue 38 smuggled animals from a truck in Siliguri, driver arrested

Siliguri, 10th April: The officers of the New Jalpaiguri (NJP) police station rescued 38 smuggled animals from a goods truck and apprehended the accused driver in connection to the case. The arrested accused has been identified as Jahirul Islam, a resident of Assam.


According to reports, late Tuesday night, the NJP police received a tip-off that a goods-laden truck was smuggling animals to Jalpaiguri from Fulbari. Acting on this tip-off, the police initiated an operation at the Fulbari toll gate area. Subsequently, the truck was intercepted and 38 smuggled animals were found, including 25 cows and 13 goats.

The truck driver was arrested on charges of transporting animals without a valid live stock permit. On Wednesday, the accused was presented before the Jalpaiguri court. At present, the police are engaged in a detailed investigation of the entire incident.
