Police obstruct BJP’s rally against state govt for not reducing VAT on fuel prices in Siliguri

Siliguri, 13th November: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Siliguri Organizational District Committee demanding reduction fuel tax levied by the state government took a rally in Siliguri today. Several BJP leaders including Darjeeling MP Raju Bista, BJP State General Secretary Rathindranath Bose, Siliguri MLA Shankar Ghosh, Matigara-Naxalbari MLA Anandamoy Barman, Phansidewa MLA Durga Murmu, Dabgram-Fulbari MLA Shikha Chatterjee were present.

While the rally was taken out from the party office, the police stopped the demonstration midway. During this, there was an altercation between the police and the demonstrators. A huge police corps was deployed in the area to avoid any untoward incident.

Addressing the journalists, MP Raju Bista said that while other states have given exemption in VAT on petroleum products, West Bengal has failed to do so. “West Bengal police turns a blind eye when BJP workers are killed, but stops peaceful rally demanding reduction fuel tax levied by the TMC Government. It seems that the policemen are not working for the general public but for the Trinamool Congress,” Bista alleged.
