Siliguri, 18th June: The collective efforts of the police and NGO helped in the rescue of a youth who reached Siliguri unintentionally from Assam. The missing youth has been identified as Raju Sarkar alias Shambhu. According to sources, the youth was mentally challenged.
Reportedly, Raju reached New Jalpaiguri (NJP) Railway Station by boarding a train from Assam. Subsequently, wandering from the station he reached Bagrakote, adjacent to Siliguri. Meanwhile, Raju’s presence was noticed by an individual named Bijay Sarkar in Bagrakote. Upon seeing his condition, Bijay took care of Raju for almost 2 weeks.
Later, the Siliguri Moner Rangoli Smiley Society was informed about the matter. Upon receiving the news, the society reached out to Raju and firstly admitted him to Siliguri District Hospital. Following this, Siliguri Police Station was also informed regarding the matter.
Meanwhile, police, engaged in an investigation, contacted the Bongaigaon Police Station in Assam and traced Raju’s family members. Upon receiving the news of Raju, his brother Krishna Sarkar rushed to Siliguri. After mandatory legal process, today, the police of Siliguri Police Station and Moner Rangoli Smiley Society handed over Raju to his brother.
Speaking in this regard, Raju’s brother revealed that he was mentally challenged for which he was undergoing treatment. In addition, he stated that he had gone missing a month ago and they were searching for presence in Assam. He added that the family members are happy about getting Raju back.
Speaking on behalf of the Siliguri Moner Rangoli Smiley Society, Enashree Saha stated that Raju was successfully rescued and handed over to his family members with the active cooperation of Siliguri Police Station and Assam Police.
